About Camden Parks & Recreation

The Camden Parks and Recreation Department manages and/or maintains more than 700 acres of town property and several facilities. These include:
•    Ragged Mountain Recreation Area
•    Laite Beach
•    Shirttail Point Beach
•    Barrett’s Cove Beach
•    Seabright Park
•    2 boat launches on Lake Megunticook
•    Village Green
•    Hodson Park
•    Public landing parking area and restrooms
•    Several picnic sites on Lake Megunticook
•    Maiden Cliff Trail
•    Mowing of Mountain View and Oak Hill Cemeteries, Public Library grounds, Amphitheatre and Harbor Park, and the Wastewater Treatment Facility,

The Ragged Mountain Recreation Area (RMRA) is a unique and important Town asset. It is home to the Parks and Recreation Department offices and maintenance facilities as well as:

•    The Camden Snow Bowl
•    The sports field (football, lacrosse, soccer, Frisbee, etc.)
•    Tennis courts
•    Boat and swimming access on Hosmer pond
•    The Snow Bowl lodge
•    A community alpine ski area, with 845 feet of vertical and 60 acres of skiable terrain, including 16 trails, four lifts, a snowmaking system covering more than 20 acres, an equipment rental shop, and a retail ski shop through a concessionaire
•    A snow tubing hill
•    The Jack Williams toboggan chute
•    A trail system which is used throughout the year by mountain bikers, hikers, dog walkers, snowshoers and Nordic skiers.

Spring, summer, and fall programs and activities managed or supported by the department include:
•    Private Snow Bowl lodge rentals
•    6-week Summer Recreation Program for children (contracted to the Penobscot Bay YMCA)
•    Megunticook Canoe and Kayak Race
•    Wednesday-in-the-Park Summer Concert Series
•    Run for Your Life trail running/ obstacle race
•    Ragged Mountain Run Around running race
•    Ragged Mountain Fat Tire Festival
•    Summer and fall chairlift operations
•    High School Ski Team Ski Swap
